Lynchburg, VA - A Lynchburg woman has turned over 40 dogs to the Humane Society after Animal Control officers were called to her home. We are told a neighbor told authorities about the hoarding going on in her home. All those dogs are now looking for new homes.

Lynchburg Animal Control says the woman signed a consent form turning all of the dogs over to the Humane Society. But, space there was already tight and adding 40 new dogs at once doesn't help.

When Jill Mollohan got to work at the Lynchburg Humane Society, she had 40 surprises waiting for attention - a room full of small dogs dropped off at the Humane Society. Chihuahuas, Jack Russell Terriers, and a couple of very pregnant dogs too.

"Just interacting with them. Most of them are very friendly, and they're healthy. We haven't gotten to know their intimate personalities yet, dog to dog, but I'm sure we will," said Mollohan.

Mollohan says each one is happy, healthy but now homeless. The Humane Society gives them a place to stay. But space is tight.

"O yes, definitely. We had to be very creative. We usually have to be creative anyway, but yeah, we had to be very creative to fit 40 dogs in to our shelter," said Mollohan.

Creativity's key at the shelter. They put the dogs in a room that's had a couple uses in its day -- conference room, cat room, even Mollohan's room.

"And that's also the room that my office is in," said Mollohan.

Mollohan can't keep 40 dogs in her office for long. She wanted them adopted and living in loving homes yesterday.

"They are pretty popular. Everyone comes in and asks for a small dog and now we have almost 40 of them," said Mollohan.

If you're interested in adopting, you can call the Lynchburg Humane Society at (434) 846-1438.
