Health Check: Retaining Memories While Sleeping

Posted:

Getting a good night's sleep can help you in more ways than one, especially if you have a test or presentation in the morning.

It's the subject of this week's Health Check.

A new study published in the Journal of Neuroscience finds your brain stores memories while you are snoozing. Researchers tested a group of adults on recalling words, locating an object and reproducing a sequence of finger taps.

Not only did the group who slept seven to eight hours retain more, but those who knew they would be tested remembered even more.

Researchers say the brain retains information that it considers the most important.
