Health Check: Less Invasive Breast Cancer Treatment

Posted:

Doctors are calling it a pivotal moment in breast cancer research - one that could help eliminate painful side effects for women.

A new study in the Journal of the American Medical Association suggests that removing lymph nodes from a patient's breast is no longer necessary. The study showed that doctors could only take out one or two nodes and leave the rest behind - and still end up with the same survival rate. Experts say this does only apply to early stage breast cancer patients.

They say they expect this less invasive approach will be more standard treatment in the future.
