Many of you are on the ball with your taxes. You filed early. You're getting a refund. So now you're wondering, or soon will be, "Where's my money"? Don't bug the mail carrier. The Internal Revenue Service has a better way to track down your refund... either by phone or online.
The IRS has an online tool called "Where's My Refund?" To get started, you'll need some information:
- Your social security number.
- Your filing status.
- The amount you're expecting.
When should you start checking? Depends on how you filed.
- If you e-filed and requested direct deposit, the IRS says wait 72 hours before using the tracking tool.
- If you filed a paper return, and you're expecting a check in the mail, give it at least three weeks before checking.
The "Where's My Refund" tracking tool is updated every Wednesday, so check after Wednesday for the most up-to-date information.
And now there's an app to track your refund. It's called IRS2Go. You can also get tax tips from the IRS. It's free, and available for people who use iPhones or Androids.
