Appomattox, VA - Your used and unwanted eyeglasses could help a Jamaican see clearly, possibly for the first time.
An Appomattox optometrist is collecting used glasses for a mission trip to St. Thomas Parish on April 1.
Dr. Clifford Phillips estimates between 4,000 and 5,000 pairs have been donated in the last five years. One pair went to a 15-year-old boy with cataracts.
"He really could not see very well at all and needed some of the glasses. I had one pair in my bag that would work for him, so that one donation that someone gave me was very helpful for this young man," Dr. Phillips said.
You can drop off your used prescription or reading glasses at any St. Clair Eyecare location.
