Lynchburg, VA - A change is coming to mail processing operations in the area. This October, the Postal Service will move some mail processing operations from Lynchburg to Roanoke.

The decision is based on numbers from a study last year. This means processing for outgoing mail from Lynchburg will be done in Roanoke rather than the Hill City.

Lynchburg's plant manager says the change will not affect customers, in fact, he says you will not notice a change at all. And on top of that, the shift will save $1,600,000 a year.

"Transportation cost savings as far as the processing. Machines have a certain utilization that they have to be processed with and right now there's just not enough mail in the stream to process that," Lynchburg Post Office Acting Plant Manager Jeff Lee said.

Lee says by doing this, no jobs will be lost. He says it won't take any longer to receive mail.
