Lynchburg, VA - With the help of Governor Bob McDonnell J.Crew officials broke ground on their new distribution facility in Lynchburg Monday.

Right after announcing more than 500 new jobs in Henry County, the Governor came to Lynchburg to break ground on a facility that will bring 177 new jobs to the area.

He says job creation is one of his administration's top priorities, and it's the type of news he hopes will keep coming to the area.

The J.Crew groundbreaking ceremony had every making of a pep rally. There was plenty of applause, and lots of talk about J.Crew's fashion. The Governor even took a minute to show off his threads.

"How do you think I look in my J.Crew shirt?" said Governor McDonnell to a crowd of J.Crew employees.

In an economy that is slowly recovering, McDonnell says job growth is the type of news he hope to deliver more in the Commonwealth.

"Our administration is trying to do everything we can to say Virginia is open for business. We want you to come here, and we're going to do everything we can to be a good working partner," said McDonnell.

Surrounded by local legislators, and city officials the Governor lifted soil, breaking ground on the new J.Crew facility. Lynchburg Mayor Joan Foster says the expansion will be a much needed morale booster for job seekers, and the area's economy.

"People that have been displaced by other jobs in the region can come and get a job at J.Crew so to me it means not only more jobs for Lynchburg, but it could be for our entire region," said Mayor Foster.

And, not only is the company expanding their distribution plant, J. Crew executives say Lynchburg will play a key role in growing their customer base.

"Starting this summer we're going to ship all over the world from Lynchburg," said Tony Brown, SVP of Global Supply Chain at J.Crew.

Officials say construction on the new facility should start later in the spring. There is still no date for when hiring will start.
