Oral Roberts freshmen Alex Gonzalez and T.J. Bennett were named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team, it was announced Wednesday.
Bennett, who split time between second and third base in 2011, was named to the team as a third baseman. He started in 52 games, batted .287 and had three home runs and 24 runs batted in.
He's the first position player at ORU to earn freshman All-American status since 2005, when Kelly Minissale made the team as an outfielder. He was also named to the All-Summit League second team.
Gonzalez was a starting pitcher for the Golden Eagles, going 8-and-7 with a 3.41 earned run average. He struck out 100 batters in 105 and two-thirds innings while allowing just 96 hits.
He was named both the Summit League Pitcher and Newcomer of the Year and was a Summit League Tournament MVP. He's the first ORU pitcher to earn freshman All-American status since Jerry Sullivan in 2007.
