Lynchburg, VA - Lynchburg's Dearington Elementary is making sure they are creating a group of solid future leaders in the community.
This week 24 students, hand-picked by staff, will wrap up a 10 day program focused on leadership. They were chosen based on their overall leadership potential.
For two weeks they learned to work together and took part in several activities such as a ropes course, table manners and goal setting.
"I learned like be positive, don't say negative words and think good thoughts," fourth grader Chris Vaughan said.
"There is potential within every child. That potential needs to be developed. It needs to be tapped into. Students need to be made aware of the possibilities for leadership," Guidance Counselor Dr. Annette Miller said.
After Friday, the students will apply for leadership positions around the school for the upcoming academic school year.
