I moved to Danville, VA just about two weeks ago. It has been quite a different scene that what I am used to, having grown up so close to the Big Apple. People have asked me, "Has the adjustment been hard?" "How are you holding up?" "What's it like being so far from home?" - To be honest, the adjustment has been relatively easy, I'm holding up fine and being so far from home, can be difficult, but at times, has its perks!
This is my first reporting job – I am new to a lot of different things here, the area, the newsroom, but I have been so graciously welcomed and accepted by both peers and locals alike, that the transition from home and student life has been seamless.
I am enjoying every second of my new job and location – trying to embrace it all. One thing I am learning is the benefit of meeting new people. Meeting someone new, introducing yourself to a stranger can have all sorts of benefits. We have so much more in common with one another than we think we do – something that I am realizing every day. I am excited to be here, and can't wait to see what comes next for me during my time on the Southside.
