Danville, VA - The YMCA in Danville officially bought a plot of land for their new building Thursday, which will now become part of Danville's River District.
The YMCA got the land partly due to a donation from the River Partnership. This lot overlooks the Dan River, making it the first organization to face the river in the last century.
"It really is history! We are excited to embrace the river because it is the heart. And we kind of think the YMCA is the heart of it all too," said Sarah Folmar, CEO of the Danville Family YMCA.
Folmar there says the organization is very close to approval for the building.
They are hoping to break ground by December or January, and should be open in a less than two years.
