Investigators Say No Suspect in Short Family Murder Case

Henry Co., VA- Local, state and national authorities were in Henry Co. this morning to talk about the latest developments in the Short family murders.

This weekend marks the nine year anniversary of the murders, and authorities still do not have a suspect, nor have they made any arrests.

Members of the task force investigating the murders is made up of the Richmond division of the FBI, the Virginia State Police, the Henry County Sheriff's Office and the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office in North Carolina.

Officials said they have had several leads, but this has been their hardest case to solve.

"We've always felt that this was going to be solved by the community. We needed the community help with this particular crime. But at this point we don't have anything conclusive," said Mark Mackizer from the FBI.

They said they are still hopeful that an arrest will be made and justice will be served, but they need those who have information to come forward.

In August 2002, Michael and Mary Short were found shot to death in their Bassett home. Jennifer's remains were found a few weeks later in North Carolina.

The case was on America's Most Wanted this year, which generated 300 new leads. Investigators have gone through about 85% of them.
