Lynchburg, VA- The new movie theater Visulite Cinemas is taking over the old Carmike 8 Theater at the Plaza this Friday.
This will be one of the few places you can see independent films in our area. Owner Adam Greenbaum says this is more than just a movie theater because he's added lots of stuff to try to make it more than just a movie experience.
"We really want to be an entertainment destination," said Greenbaum.
Visulite Cinemas will show a mix of mainstream movies and independent films.
"I was a screenwriter in New York, and I really dreamt of opening an art-house theater and bringing independent movies to places that didn't have them," said Greenbaum.
If you enjoy stand up comedy or want to give open microphone night a try this fall you can do both here at Visulite cinema. The 250 seat comedy room will host local talent and live music.
Afterward you can relax in the lounge area.
"People love to talk about movies afterwards with their friends and stuff so it's cool to create an environment for that," said Greenbaum.
The snack bar will also have some new attractions. There are spice flavorings for popcorn and some treats from local companies like Taste Selects.
"They do great cupcakes and we're going to feature them here as well as other pastries, coffee, cappuccino, and that kind of stuff," said Greenbaum.
Greenbaum says they go the extra mile to show kids and families a good time.
"We try to have fun, especially with kid movies. We do trivia, and we give prizes," said Greenbaum.
The movies won't be as cheap as Carmike 8 was, but Greenwood says there are plenty of ways you can save.
"We have coupons and you can get coupons if you check-in on your phone. You get a free ticket if you do it like five times," said Greenbaum.
The theater will open on Friday, August 19. They're celebrating with giveaways and prizes for guests.
You can buy your tickets now online.
