Continuance Granted in VA Tech Lawsuits

Posted:

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (AP) -- A continuance has been granted in two wrongful death lawsuits filed against Virginia Tech after the 2007 mass shootings.

Special Justice William Alexander granted the continuance Tuesday. The lawsuits had been set to be heard starting Sept. 29 in Montgomery County Circuit Court.

Students Julia Pryde and Erin Peterson were among 32 people killed in the April 2007 shootings. The families of the two students filed the lawsuits.

The Roanoke Times (http://bit.ly/qC4hSw) reports Alexander's ruling came after the plaintiffs sought more time to collect information from State Police and three public relations firms hired by the university after the shootings.

Alexander also ruled that a lawsuit against Tech's Cook Counseling Center will be held as scheduled on Sept. 29 separately from the other lawsuits.
