Tiny Baby Goes to School by Danner Evans

I get lost looking at pictures of my son.  He will be 2 in October and like a lot of you I find myself wondering where all the time went.  What happened to my tiny baby boy?

Today I dropped my son off at preschool for the first time.  It's been a moment I've been whimpering over all morning. You'll have to forgive me if the tears on my keyboard send typos onto my blog.

He is a fun kid, full of life who loves trains and buses.  His vocabulary is really developing right now -- new words every day.  I just knew he would thrive in preschool.  That said, I had reservations about sending him to "school."  This would mean he really is a toddler and not a baby.  That's a tough reality for this mommy.

We went to the school last week to meet his teachers and so he could see his classroom.  We've been talking about school all weekend long with excited voices.  We woke up this morning and went into his room to greet him with, "Are you ready for your first day of school?"  To which he answered, "Yeah!"  (We're working on yes sir and no ma'am).

He put on his rain coat this morning and strapped on his back pack – the photo op I've been dreaming of for the last couple years.

His teachers greeted us with smiles and distractions.  He clung to me as we said goodbye and we left.  I cried in the hallway, he cried in the classroom.

Ten seconds later I was the only one still crying.

It's been a tough morning for Mommy but I just got the report from Granny (my husband's mom who picked him up) that it was a great morning.  He was smiling and playing away.

I guess that's the start to a great school year and a little boy who's growing up too fast for his mom's taste.
