Your Time for News by Bill Foy

Today marks a fairly significant ending and beginning at WSET.   Tonight (Friday) at 5:00, our viewers will get a chance to watch the very last installment of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" on ABC 13.   Admittedly, it's a re-run from back in May, but it represents the very last time that Oprah graces our airwaves with her legendary hour of talk.

While you are watching Oprah at 5:00, the ABC 13 News Team will be putting the finishing touches on plans and rehearsals for our new 5:00 and 5:30 newscasts which begin Monday (September 12.)    It also marks the debut of our newscast being produced in high definition.

We're extremely proud of the most recent Nielsen ratings, which proclaimed WSET the number one newscast at 6:00 in the Roanoke-Lynchburg market.  We appreciate the confidence viewers have placed in our product, and are determined not to let you down once we expand our newscast offerings.   We're working hard to continue to produce Coverage You Can Count On.  Late-breaking, urgent news and all the top stories of the day.   Along with that, we'll focus our coverage on stories that impact your family.   Education, health, fitness and the stretching the budget.  Danner Evans returns to Virginia to anchor the new 5:00 newscast, and she'll be joined by Len Stevens at 5:30, along with Meteorologists Sean Sublette and Lyndsay Tapases in the ABC 13 Weather Center.

So whether you join us at 5:00 and 5:30, or prefer our traditional time periods at 6&7, we like to think we're making ABC 13 News available at a time that's convenient for you.  As our promotional spots indicate, it's "your time for news."
