It's time to lace up your sneakers and hit the pavement at the Virginia 10 Miler. The family festival is Friday, Sept. 23 4:30 p.m. - 7 p.m. at Amazement Square in downtown Lynchburg. The Amazing Mile Children's Run kicks off at 6 p.m. and will be followed by the children's band Rocknocerous at 6:45 p.m. The celebration is free and open to the public. The 10 and 4 mile runs start Saturday, Sept. 24 morning at E.C. Glass. The festivities will continue along the race route with six bands along Langhorne Road and Rivermont Avenue.
Most of us know Thomas Jefferson as a wine lover, but he did also love his brews. You can learn about the practice of brewing on Sunday, Sept. 25 at Hops at Poplar Forest. The event is part of the Jefferson's Passions series and will feature a beer brewing expert who will give a presentation about the theory and practice of brewing. You'll be able to sample beer recipes from Jefferson's era and tour the house. Reservations are required, and tickets are $20.
Bedford's Centerfest 2011 is Saturday, Sept. 23 from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. The outdoor street festival will have more than 150 vendors, crafters, performers, merchants and games. There will even be a giant slides, pony rides for kids, and a car show.
Sept. 22 and Sept. 23 are the last days the Danville-Pittsylvania County Fair will be open. Regular tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children. If you want to get on the rides, Friday's wristband tickets are $18 and Saturday's are $12. There will be a concert each night.
Lynchburg's roller derby team, The Blackwater Rollers, has a home bout Sept. 24. They'll take on the Charlottesville Derby Dames at the AJ Skateworld rink in Appomattox at 7 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students.
