Lynchburg, VA - St. John's Episcopal Church in Lynchburg dedicated a brand new organ Sunday morning.

One of the pieces that was played is from a French Romantic composer and the others were Bach pieces.

The organ is modeled after a German one from the 1500s and has more than 2,000 pipes.

It's called a mechanical action organ and organists say playing it is like a little piece of Heaven.

"The action of the organ feels like an extension of your hand, and it's very responsive," said Peggy Haas Howell, organist and choir master. "It feels like you become a part of the instrument as the player."

Howell's husband, Richard, hand crafted the organ, and it took him about seven years from start to finish.

Organists say it should last for hundreds of years.
