When Oral Roberts announced today it was switching conference affiliation, it left a big question for one of its sports programs.
The Golden Eagles have a men's soccer team. The Southland Conference -- which ORU will join in 2012 -- does not participate in men's soccer.
Right now, ORU officials don't know where the men's soccer team will end up, possibly remaining in the Summit League or perhaps joining the Missouri Valley Conference.
In the Summit League (formerly Mid-Contentent Conference), ORU won or tied for the conference regular season title three times and won the conference tournament in 1999.
Last season, the ORU men's soccer team was 4-9-and-1.
The move to the Southland Conference is seen as a better geographic fit for Oral Roberts, with all teams being within 586 miles of Tulsa -- the farthest being Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Only three of ORU's nine Summit League opponents were as close as Corpus Christi, including a 955 mile trek to Cedar City, Utah, 819 miles to Rochester, Michigan and 743 miles to Fargo, North Dakota.
