Bedford, VA - Bedford police arrested a rape suspect last week after responding to a call about a fight.
Investigators say Bedford resident James Randell Watkins, 24, was arrested and charged with drunk in public, indecent exposure, assault and battery, and abduction and rape.
Police responded to the Liberty Manor Apartments about 11:30 p.m. October 25. A female told them she'd been sexually assaulted in her apartment.
She described Watkins who then walked out from behind the apartment buildings wearing only socks. After a short chase, a police officer caught Watkins and arrested him.
Police say they believe this was an isolated event.
"The victim and the suspect knew each other so it's not a concern for that neighborhood in particular," said Chief James Day from City of Bedford Police.
Watkins is being held without bond in the Blue Ridge Regional Jail in Bedford.
