Baby Feldkamp has arrived!
Congratulations to my sports partner Justin Feldkamp and his wife Kmberly. They're the proud new parents of Benjamin Wilson Feldkamp, born early Monday morning, Halloween Day.
Benjamin tipped the scales at seven pounds, 12 ounces and he's already got a miniature baseball bat and I'm sure plenty of Cincinnati Reds apparel to go with it. Everyone here at the station is thrilled for Justin and Kimberly and can't wait to see their new addition!
It wasn't the Cincinnati Reds, but rather the St. Louis Cardinals who won it all in baseball this season. It was great to see the World Series go the full seven games for the first time in nine years and most of the games were pretty exciting. It's amazing how one play really decided this series.
If Nelson Cruz of the Rangers makes the catch on David Freese's two-run triple in the ninth inning of Game 6, Texas wins 7-5 in nine innings, game over, and it's the Rangers spraying champagne and celebrating their first World Series championship. And it was a very catchable ball.
Cruz appeared unsure of how much room he had before he would hit the wall. If he could have taken a couple more steps back, he makes the catch and there is no Game 7.
Still, you really have to commend the Cardinals on a great postseason, upsetting the Phillies and Brewers, then beating Texas in the Series. Then three days later, Tony La Russa announced he's retiring as Cardinals manager. Can't fault the guy at all after managing in the bigs for 33 years and winning three World Series championships. He's a sure Hall of Famer when the time comes.
Don't forget to vote for our Football Friday Player of the Year. Our list of 10 finalists will be trimmed to just five Friday night. Lots of talented guys are up for the honor. The Player of the Year Award will be announced on Football Friday's season finale, the day after Thanksgiving.
College football, these are just some of the big games to keep your eyes on this weekend:
UVa at Maryland, Sat. 12:30
VMI at Liberty, Sat. 3:30
W&L at Hampden-Sydney, Sat 1:00 (ODAC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME)
LSU at Alabama, Sat. 8:00 (#1 vs. #2)
This Saturday will be Championship Saturday for three Lynchburg College teams. The LC field hockey and women's soccer teams will host ODAC Championship Games, the LC men's soccer team is on the road, but only 10 minutes away at cross-town rival Randolph.
Enjoy all the sports!
