My Thanksgiving List by Bill Foy

Posted:

This afternoon, Governor McDonnell issued his traditional Thanksgiving Day proclamation, calling on all Virginians to "give thanks to our Creator for our plentiful blessings, including the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness as well as the unwavering strength of our families and communities."

This time of year it is indeed appropriate to take stock of all the many wonderful things we enjoy as citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

For me personally, the list of things of which I am overwhelmingly thankful includes:

• My friends and co-workers at WSET. An unbelievably hard working and dedicated bunch of broadcasters, who never cease to amaze me with what they accomplish every morning, noon and night.

• Virginia's beautiful autumn colors. Even as we approach the end of the leaf season, the blaze of fall still seems fresh and vibrant.

• The Commonwealth Cup and a football game between two long time rivals this Saturday in Charlottesville. I've got tickets and it really means something this year.

• The coming of the Christmas season. I'm really thankful it means so much more than shopping and decorations.

• The Carolina coast. I've been fortunate to be able to spend a lot of time at the beach. It's as good as it gets when looking for a place to unwind.

• Facebook. Yes, because it has allowed me to reconnect with so many people I was sure I'd never hear from again. And it has helped me better communicate with many of the people I come in contact with regularly.

• Two yellow labs. A 10-year old named Cody, and a 6-year old named Jake. As far as friendly, loyal companions, I wouldn't trade these two for anything.

• Grown children. Even my youngest of four is on his own now and paying his own bills. I am thankful they all made it.

• My best friend. My number one fan. My wife, Sally who always makes me feel special.

• Days like this coming Thursday, when family and boyfriends and in-laws all gather for the best meal of the year and some pretty good football on TV. Lord, we are fortunate to live in Virginia. For that, we are thankful.
