Danville, VA -- Like most folks, firefighters spent their Thanksgiving in the kitchen, except they are at the one inside the fire department. They worked their normal shift today, saying that saving lives and protecting folks is their number one priority. We talked with a few of Danville's firefighters who say that Thanksgiving tends to have a higher than average call rate because of a lot of unattended cooking fires. But when they are not out on a call, Station One makes their own Thanksgiving feast and celebrates with their work family.
"We're going to watch the football game and the comradery is really great. That's one of the great parts of being a firefighter. Just the guys and the people you work with, they are a wonderful group of people," said Gregory D. Setliff, Firefighter.
They also say that some of their families come visit throughout the day, so they do get to spend Thanksgiving with their relatives.
