Carter's Call for November 30, 2011

Posted:

Has this year flown by or what? Hard to believe it's December and just more than THREE WEEKS 'til Christmas!

I can still remember as a kid my parents saying time seemed to go by faster when you're older, I thought they were pulling my leg.

Now I know better.

I'm looking forward to the ACC Championship Game this Saturday night in Charlotte, Virginia Tech taking on Clemson. The Tigers did a number on the Hokies two months ago in Blacksburg, beating them soundly 23-3.

While you never like to lose, that defeat seems to have been a real turning point for Tech quarterback Logan Thomas. Since being shut down that day, all Thomas and the Hokies have done is win their next seven games. In those seven wins, Thomas has accounted for 23 touchdowns (14 passing, 9 rushing) while throwing just two interceptions. This is the matchup Tech wanted, a chance to repay Clemson for that 20-point loss.

The Tigers have lost three of their last four coming in, but all that won't matter a bit Saturday night. The stakes are high, an ACC Championship and trip to the Orange Bowl.

My prediction: the Hokies get their revenge and beat Clemson 34-17.

Congratulations to VT's David Wilson and UVa's Mike London.

Wilson was named ACC Offensive and Overall Player of the Year while London was honored as ACC Coach of the Year. Wilson has already rushed for 1595 yards, third in the nation, and is on pace to break VT's and the ACC single-season rushing record. And what a great job London has done with the Cavaliers in his second season, guiding a 4-and-8 team a year ago to an 8-and-4 mark this year with a bowl game still to play.

And while the regular season ended with a tough 38-0 loss to their state rivals the Hokies, the Cavs should be fired up for whatever bowl trip they make, a chance to cap off a nine-win season.

The weather was so nice last Sunday I couldn't resist a chance to play some golf with my son Ryan. We got in nine holes and the round was an adventure as it always is for me. Just to give you an idea, I started the round with a 9 and finished with a 3.

Consistency is not part of my game. But to be honest, I really didn't care, spending time with my son made the day extra special.
