Former LU Player Waives Preliminary Hearing

Posted:

Lynchburg, VA - Former Liberty University football player Asa Chapman was in court Wednesday where he waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

The judge certified one charge of felony cocaine possession against the All-American defensive lineman, but prosecutors dropped several other misdemeanor charges.

Prosecutors say they can bring back those misdemeanors at a later date, which is easily done on direct indictments. One of those charges includes possession of marijuana.

Chapman was briefly suspended this season after his arrest in August.

The Orange, Virginia native was reinstated in September after then head coach Danny Rocco said Chapman had shown remorse and sought personal counseling and academic support.

The senior is considered an NFL prospect and could be drafted this summer.

He would not answer questions Wednesday while leaving the courthouse. His case will now be heard by the grand jury on January.
