Nelson Co., VA – The Nelson County Sheriff's Office is investigating a murder that happened early Wednesday morning.

Investigators say this is their first murder case in three years.

Wednesday morning, a woman in the Elma community found her 42-year-old neighbor dead inside the neighbor's home.

Police identified her as Amy Holden of 617 Ball Mountain Lane.

Deputies arrested Francis Panal Quiros, 39, and charged him with first degree murder.

The sheriff's office will not confirm how Holden died, but neighbors in the area tell us they heard three distinct gunshots early Wednesday morning.

Crime scene technicians were sent to the home around 6 a.m. and have been working the location all day. Members of the state police are assisting in the investigation.

Local officials say the victim, Amy Holden, is well known in Nelson County for another tragedy. Back in March of 2000, she appeared on ABC 13 multiple times during the search for her 8-year-old daughter Jackie Holden. The little girl wandered away from their home. After a county-wide search, she was found dead from hypothermia two days later in the woods.
