Appomattox, VA - The finishing touches are being put on the Museum of the Confederacy in Appomattox.
The 11,000 square foot facility is scheduled to be finished by January 2.
The artifacts will arrive two months later, including General Robert E. Lee's surrender sword, uniform and resignation letter.
The museum will also have five interactive audiovisual stations, a gallery for rotating exhibits and a station where visitors can trace their roots back to civil war soldiers.
It's expected to have a big economic impact on the town of Appomattox.
"We hope that the interest that investors have when they see what happens in this community, that they will bring in more restaurants maybe some hotels that will keep people here even longer," said Linda Lipscomb, the site director.
The $10 million project is scheduled to open March 31. The governor has been invited to the grand opening.
