Danville, VA - Officials presented findings from another study looking at pros and cons of uranium mining at a Chamber of Commerce meeting in Danville Friday morning.

The 500-page study was presented by independent research firm RTI and was sponsored by the Danville Regional Foundation.

The study looked at the environmental impact and economic benefits uranium mining would have in a 50 mile radius from the site.

Researchers estimate mining will create more than 700 jobs and pump millions into the region's economy every year. But they also cited the possibility of groundwater contamination and air pollution.

"There will be environmental impacts and properly managing, regulating, monitoring and communicating could limit the adverse affects of the mine," said Katherine Heller with RTI International.

We'll be taking a closer look at the study on ABC 13 News at 5:30.
