Lynchburg, VA- With 2012 is just around the corner, and a lot of us are thinking about New Year's resolutions. Some people want to quit smoking, lose weight, or eat better. But, statistics show it's hard to stick to those resolutions so some people are actually turning hypnotherapy to keep them!
New Year's is one of the busiest times of year for hypnotherapists. And, therapists say hypnotherapy can give people that extra push of motivation they need.
"Most people worry I'm going to make them dance like a chicken or bark like a dog, because it's what they have seen on stage," said Jenny Haynes, hypnotherapist and owner of Destress America.
But, hypnotherapist Jenny Haynes says she uses hypnotherapy to help people handle stress, anxiety, and even tackle New Year's resolutions.
"With hypnotherapy you use hypnosis to put someone into a deep relaxation where they feel very comfortable, and very safe state," said Haynes.
Haynes says once in that relaxed state she can help patients change certain behaviors.
"At that point you can have a conversation with the parts of their mind that are really making people behave in ways that are consciously and rationally are not helpful," said Haynes.
"Your mind is going down, deeper, and deeper to place that is very safe," said Haynes.
Like any other goal, Haynes says you have to be ready to make a change or the hypnosis will not work. Haynes says with repeated sessions, she sees a 60% to 70% success rate.
Sessions costs about $75 an hour.
