Blacksburg, VA - Virginia Tech running back David Wilson has announced he is going to declare for the NFL draft.

Wilson, who went to high school at GW-Danville, held a press conference Friday morning in Blacksburg to announce his intention.

Wilson said playing for the NFL has been a dream he's had since he was 8 years old.

ABC 13 sportscaster Dennis Carter asked if he struggled with the decision.

"It was very tough. Even yesterday writing the statement I almost teared up thinking about my last game with Virginia Tech. I love these coaches and putting the number four jersey on each week," said Wilson.

Wilson said his parents have been backing him up throughout the whole process.

He finished his junior year with 1,709 yards, a single season Hokies record. The ACC Offensive Player of the year helped Tech finish with a record of 11-3.

Tony Gregory, the third string running back this past season, will be promoted to the number one running back spot, but underclassmen will also contend for the starting position in the spring.
