Campbell Co., VA - Campbell County laid one of its most influential leaders to rest Saturday.
The funeral for Al Scott was held at Crossroads Baptist Church in Evington. The parking lot and pews were so packed that some were forced to stand in the back.
Scott was the first African American investigator the Campbell County Sheriff's Office ever hired. Scott went on to serve the Sheriff's Office and residents of Campbell County for 30 years.
Loved ones say he was a true role model and positive influence in so many lives.
"He basically kept my head on my shoulders and made sure I went down the right path. He was out going and made sure you stay in line and not get out of order," said Niaya White, Scott's niece.
"We do have some sadness in our heart because of the loss, but as we think deeper, no we are not sad, we are happy," said Creed Rucker, deacon, Cross Roads Baptist Church.
Happy, they say, to know he's in a better place. Scott passed away Monday after suffering bleeding in his brain.
