Lynchburg, VA - Having a loved one pass away is difficult to bare, especially for children. But, a Lynchburg group is making the healing process a little easier.
The support group is called Kids' Haven. It's a non-profit made up of families - kids and their parents - who have lost someone very close to them. A couple times a month, the parents and kids share a meal together and talk about their struggles dealing with the loss.
Volunteers trained in grief counseling facilitate the evenings. Lyn Mathews has brought her 10 and five-year-old sons for three years now.
"They open up and talk about the passing of their father. And it also gives them a place where they are not the odd one out, since the rest of the children here have also suffered a loss," said Mathews.
