NASCAR Preview: Trevor Bayne and Wood Brothers Racing

Posted: Updated:

Winning last year's Daytona 500 put Trevor Bayne on the map.  It did not, though, secure the 20-year-old full time sponsorship.  He's slated to run just 13 Cup races and an undetermined number of Nationwide events this season. "I've tried to go call companies, you know whatever it takes to keep us on the racetrack.  The hardest part, the easiest part of our job is driving race cars, Bayne said.

Besides making Bayne an instant celebrity, the Daytona 500 win put the famed Wood Brothers back in victory lane which meant the world to Bayne, "It's just cool that it reignited the flame in the media and reignited the flame in the fans.  Because there are so many old fans that have kind of lost spirit because it's been 10 years since they were in victory lane."

This past Friday night, Glen Wood was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

Eddie Wood, Glen's son said, "I was at home yesterday and he was still wearing his Hall of Fame jacket and shirt and his ring.  And you know he was just like a kid."

His other son Len added, "Seeing Daddy up there with the Richard Petty's, Junior Johnson's, Ned Jarretts, Bud Moores, Pearsons and all those guys, he belonged there I think.  You know it was finally like putting an exclamation point on it.  He's where he should be, in the Hall of Fame."

Don't be shocked if the Wood Brothers repeat at Daytona next month.  Len Wood says this year's car is better than the one that took checkers last year.
