Richard Childress Racing had just one of its four drivers make the Chase last year.
Kevin Harvick has finished a strong third in points two years running but any racer will tell you, third isn't good enough. Harvick hopes new crew chief Shane Wilson can help take him to the top. "Obviously, Shane and I have had a lot of success on the Nationwide side, we have a great relationship off the race track," Harvick said.
Not only does Harvick have a new crew chief, he's got a new addition on the way. His wife Delana is 14 weeks pregnant with their first child, expecting in July. "We're excited, Delana and I are obviously expecting in July, July 23rd if you're keeping track at home."
Our Dennis Carter asked Harvick teammate Jeff Burton, "Any advice now for the expectant Dad?"
Burton said, "Hunker down man, whatever she says do, you need to do for a few months, I can tell you that."
Burton has a new crew chief, Drew Blickensderfer, and is eager, as he says, to become relevant again after a frustrating 2011. "If anybody around me thinks last year was acceptable, they need to go somewhere else because last year was, it was embarrassing to be quite honest."
Last year's Indy winner Paul Menard will again drive the 27 Chevy. The 33 is sponsored the first five races, Elliott Sadler gets the Daytona 500, Brendan Gaughan the next four races.
Sadler said, "We're going there to win and honestly we've got a pretty good track record at the Daytona 500 the last 10 years. So I think we can go down there and be very, very competitive."
