Farmville, VA - Since the fire at the Tiger Athletic Club on Hampden-Sydney's campus, folks in the Farmville community have come together to support the young men who lost their home.

Earlier this weekend, the Sigma Nu fraternity at Longwood University held a cookout and collected donations like food, clothes and toiletries to give to the guys. They also held a bowling fundraiser where nearly 200 people turned out. A portion of the proceeds that night will go to a fund to help the Hampden-Sydney crew replace some of the things they lost.

"We heard about what happened and decided that they'd probably do the same for us because we're all a big community in Farmville. Just because we go to different schools doesn't mean we're that big of rivals," said David Clipp, Longwood student who fundraised for the victims.

"People that don't even know us have been pouring their hearts out for us; it's incredible the amount of support we've gotten from the community. It's made it so much easier," said Josh Phipps, Hampden-Sydney student who escaped from the fire.

Sigma Nu will continue taking donations for a couple weeks.

If you need more information or want to arrange to have items picked up, call David Clipp at 804-389-0777 or Aaron Taylor at 804-335-4150.

Hampden Sydney alumni have also organized a bank account to help the victims of the fire. For more information, email tigerathleticclubfund@gmail.com.
