Drivers Say Intersection in Charlotte Co. Is Too Dangerous

Posted:

Charlotte Co., VA - Some drivers in Charlotte County are calling the intersection of Routes 360 and 47 an accident waiting to happen.

About three years ago, six crashes and nine injuries prompted VDOT to add flashing lights and re-align turn lanes.

But some motorists say the left lane separated by the median is easy to miss. They also say just in the last week they've seen two truck drivers traveling in the wrong direction.

The V-DOT District Administrator says traffic engineers are studying the intersection to see if any improvements can be made.

Some drivers say a stop light would cut back on all the confusion.

"Most people don't know whose got the right of way when they come off the road. They don't know which way, and everybody just sits and looks at everybody else and waits for somebody to go. They don't have a real clear pattern here," said Randy Hall, a driver.

VDOT officials say in the next 45 to 60 days they'll decide if anything can be done to ease the confusion. But they point out that there's only been one reported crash in the intersection since the new caution signals were installed.
