Reidsville, NC - Two people are dead after someone broke into their home over the weekend, and the man who killed them is still out there.

It all happened just over the border in Reidsville, North Carolina - early Saturday morning. The family will not comment, but some neighbors say - with this guy on the loose, they are very worried about their safety.

Everyone describes it as a quiet neighborhood, a place where you know the people next door and support them in their time of need.

"You always hear about it happening somewhere else except around where you're at. It did kind of spook me in a way. That's why we've been leaving the porch lights on," said James Stanley, a neighbor.

But a break-in turned a quiet home into a crime scene, leaving 49-year-old Douglas Troy French and 46-year-old Ladonna Mosley French dead from gunshot wounds, and their 19-year-old daughter, Whitley Morgan French, stabbed. The couple's son was not home.

Thomas Branch remembers his friend Ladonna.

"Very loving person, loving mother. I never heard anybody that talked bad about her or anything like that. She was just a really sweet person," said Branch.

"The thought that they don't know who done it and caught him yet, that's the part that's scary," said Kim King, a neighbor.

The sheriff says the man who broke into the house wore dark clothes and was seen running from the home with a handgun. Neighbors worry he'll strike again.

"It's just unreal to think that somebody that we knew was gone, that somebody had gone into their home and just taken them out like that," said Branch.

The sheriff's office is encouraging neighbors to take extra caution and lock their doors. They have already started increased patrolling of the area.
