Martinsville, VA -- Actor Gary Sinise, perhaps best known for his role as Lieutenant Dan in the movie Forest Gump, came to Martinsville Thursday with a special project in mind.
He's teaming up with a New York-based organization to hold a concert in Martinsville next month with his band, the "Lt. Dan Band."
Whenever someone thinks of JB Kerns, they always say the same thing.
"JB you're a hero," says Frank Siller, chairman of Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
Like so many others, this Virginia native truly sacrificed for his country. The Marine came home from Afghanistan without both legs and an arm, lost to an improvised explosive device.
"I have people thanking me all the time everywhere I go and showing support. It's pretty overwhelming," said JB.
But words can only do so much, so the Tunnel to Towers Foundation teamed up with the Gary Sinise Foundation to show their appreciation by giving him something he really needs.
"Frank called me for the first time and said he wanted to build me a house. I was like, 'Is this guy joking around with me? Is this guy serious?'" said JB.
"We are going to build these young men, the ones that are most severely injured, the young men and women, a beautiful home. And let me tell you something JB, we are going to build you a beautiful home," said Siller.
It will have everything JB needs, from smart technology to assist him to a wrap-around porch, the only request JB made.
"We take care of them during the battle, and when they come home, God forbid something bad happens to them we should do what we can to support them," says Sinise.
