Lynchburg, VA - A local lawmaker is stepping up to make sure students at private colleges have an easy time casting their vote.
Sen. Steve Newman proposed an amendment to the voter identification bill this week. The amendment will allow students at private colleges to use their college ID to vote. Newman says the amendment will clear up a technical flaw in the bill.
Current law only allowed students at Virginia colleges and universities to use their college IDs at the voting box.
"For decades in the commonwealth a college I.D. was acceptable from a public or private university for the purpose of voting. This technical amendment to this bill that ensures Liberty University, Lynchburg College, Randolph College, Sweet Briar College continue to be able to use their college I.D. when voting," said Newman.
The technical amendment was adopted unanimously by the Senate.
