Nelson Co., VA - Verizon phone service in parts of Nelson and Amherst Counties went down Tuesday afternoon.
Verizon said a fiber line was cut, and crews are currently trying to fix the problem.
The outages are affecting the Nelson County 911 center prompting officials to open alternate lines in case of an emergency.
From a cell phone you can call 434-263-7050 and from a land line you can call 434-325-1222.
The Nelson County public safety director said he will inform ABC 13 News as soon as crews fix the phone lines.
