Martinsville, VA - The SPCA of Martinsville & Henry County had a Valentine's Day visit from second graders at Albert Harris Elementary School.

They made cards and even put in little doggie bones because they wanted them to know how much they love them.

The students got to hear a play after hand delivering the treats to the animals at the shelter. The play teaches kids about the importance of spaying and neutering your pet.

Students got a tour and the chance to ask questions about taking care of pets. Teachers say it's important for these kids to learn young about giving back.

"This is our community project for the month. Our second grades decided to do pennies for the SPCA, they love our animals, and we appreciate how much this facility does for our community," said Lynn Garrett -Art Teacher at Albert Harris Elementary School.

The school has 5 second grade classes and together they raised $75 with the "Pennies for The SPCA" project.
