Danville, VA. - On Wednesday night people in Danville were able to see and hear plans for the city's anticipated River District renovation project.
Streetscape Project officials say one of the largest moves is taking out Main Street's center turn lane in order to increase space for pedestrians to walk.
They also want to add brick sidewalks to allow for outdoor dining, grassy areas and park benches.
Officials for the revitalization project say that at least 20 towns in Virginia have benefited from their Streetscape Project.
They answered numerous questions and concerns from the crowd.
"We've been given a pretty strong mandate from the city of $2.8 million as our budget and we will stick to that" said Mark Liebreth, the landscape architect.
Officials describe the project as a nice way to stretch the city's dollar.
The renovation will begin in July and take about a year.
