Shelter Giving out Reward for Info on Puppy Left in Dumpster

Danville, VA – The Danville Area Humane Society is giving out a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person who left a puppy in a dumpster Wednesday.

Officials say a woman found the 6-week-old puppy in a box at the dumpster behind Red Lobster in Danville. She took the puppy home overnight and fed him before turning it in to the shelter Thursday morning.

The puppy appears to be healthy, according to workers at the shelter.

"Abandonment of an animal in Virginia is against the law. In fact, if charged under the cruelty statute, that's a class one misdemeanor and the person could be fined up to $2,500 and be given a jail sentence up to 12 months," said Paulette Dean, director of the Danville Area Humane Society.

Anyone with information about this puppy being abandoned is urged to call the Danville Area Humane Society at (434) 799-5306. You can remain anonymous.
