Former UVA Lacrosse Player Murder Trial Canceled for Rest of Friday

Posted:

Charlottesville, VA - For the second straight day, the George Huguely murder trial has been impacted by sickness. The judge canceled court for the rest of Friday because one of Huguely's attorneys is out ill.

The defense did present three witnesses Friday morning, which came at the objection of Huguely himself. The defense claims they couldn't put on their medical evidence because the missing attorney is the one who's spent hundreds of hours preparing for their testimony. So the judge instructed the defense to call all the witnesses they could.

Through his attorney, Huguely said he did not want to proceed without his full counsel present. The judge decided to continue anyway.

That now raises questions about possible concerns in the appeals process. This opens the door for a complaint by the defense team. Court will begin again at 9 a.m. Saturday.

The defense intends to call just two more witnesses, both doctors. After that, the prosecution will call some rebuttal witnesses and then it's time for closing arguments.
