Oral Roberts nearly allowed a 15-point first half lead get away in the second half, but held off Akron for a 67-61 victory Saturday in a Bracketbuster game at the Mabee Center.
The Golden Eagles (25-5) jumped out to a 21-11 advantage and the lead grew to 28-13 late in the first half.
The Zips trimmed the lead to six with nine straight points, but ORU pushed it back to double digits at halftime with five straight, including a jumper by Dominique Morrison with six seconds left.
In the second half, Akron used a 14-5 run to pull within a single point on a pair of free throws by Alex Abreu with 11:12 to play.
But, the Golden Eagles kept the lead with a 10-2 spurt to push the lead back to nine. Akron never got closer than four the rest of the way.
Morrison led the way with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Damen Bell-Holter added 15 points and Warren Niles chipped in a dozen.
Abreu scored 16 to lead Akron (19-8).
The Golden Eagles held a massive 37-24 edge in rebounding and limited the Zips to 41-percent shooting.
ORU returns to Summit League play with the regular season finale next Saturday at Southern Utah.
