Lynchburg, VA - One by one, it seems people are getting ready for the possible Sunday snow. It's not the typical mad rush to the stores, but Saturday we did find a few taking small steps to prepare themselves for a change in the weather.
Friday, it seemed as if people didn't believe the snow was coming. But now, slowly but surely, they're heading out to Lowe's and outside to cover their plants. And, many took the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful weather before it all changes.
It's not a typical pre-snow day: the kids are out playing tag and the guys are out on the court. But the few we did find getting ready say they're not letting Saturday's good weather fool them.
"I mean, I've seen it happen - you can go from this kind of temperature to an extreme with snow tomorrow," said Yvonne Ball, working in her garden.
"I've got a 50 pack of noodles at home right now - that's all I need," said Keith Stone, shooting some hoops.
They're bringing out the shovels, covering up their roses and a few are making a run to Lowe's.
"We've sold a few shovels, a little ice melt and that's about it - we put all those out this morning. I think we've sold around 7 or 8," said James Tinsley, seasonal manager, Lowe's.
So it's not a mad dash to the store by any means. But, Lowe's Manager James Tinsley says if you wait until you see the flurries, you may have a long line to wait in.
"I'm pretty sure, if the snow starts falling, they'll be in here to buy them," said Tinsley.
Even though many are reluctant to buy, they're hoping it will happen.
Stone says he's looked forward to playing in the snow with his son.
"I would probably take him sleigh-riding, hit him with a couple snow balls, have a little snow ball fight and build a little frosty," said Stone.
And Yvonne Ball says she wouldn't mind a day or two of snow and frigid temperatures, because this warm winter has already been a blessing.
"We've saved on the heating bill - a lot of people have been grateful about that because it was really bad. When the price of gas came down, so the heating bill is really looking great," said Ball.
Well whatever happens, we're good and prepared here at the news station. And for everyone who plans to drive, be careful out there. Of course, you can always check back in with us. We'll have full snow coverage throughout the day Sunday.
