Snow Outlook in the New River Valley

Roanoke, VA - The Roanoke Valley is expected to get the worst of the storm, but so far things there have yet to live up to those expectations.

In the past hour, the snow has really started picking up and snow is accumulating on pavement which has slowed things down out on Interstate 581.

Earlier Sunday afternoon, the wet, snowy weather seemed to keep most people out of downtown.

But outside of downtown you could find people taking advantage of the snow to get some time in on Ghent Hill, a very popular sledding hill.

Out even farther in Montgomery County, it seemed as though there was less snow through most of the day, maybe an inch in places.

And while visibility on the interstate is no more than a half mile, neither the snow or the fog was enough to cause any trouble.

"Yeah it's been going pretty good," said Clay Ayers, who was traveling from Tennessee to Washington, D.C. "There haven't been any accidents or slick roads. It's been going at a pretty good pace."

There have been reported accidents on Interstate 81, where one lane southbound in Botetourt County is closed and one lane northbound in Pulaski County is also closed.
