Lynchburg,VA- A lot of people were out enjoying the area's first real snow. But, it made road conditions very slick and dangerous. A lot of the roads were snow covered, and tricky to navigate Sunday night.
A group of good Samaritans pulled over to check inside an overturned car on the Lynchburg Expressway. It was just one of several cars that got stuck in the snow, and slush.
"You just want to make sure everything is o.k. And, that's exactly what we did. We pulled over checked around the car side and made sure nobody was in it," said Brent Fortenberry.
Thankfully no one was inside the overturned car.
"I know it's a bad situation. And, I know if I was in there I would want someone to help me too," said Fortenberry.
The overturned car was just a glimpse of what tow truck operators dealt with all night on Sunday.
"This is the sixth call already. Plus we helped like four other people just out of the goodness of our hearts," said Randy Martin, tow truck operator for Concept Towing.
The guys have been at it since the afternoon, lifting, and towing stuck cars.
"There are a lot of people in ditches, and a lot of opportunity to help people. It's going to be crazy people need to stay off the roads right now," said Hans Ulrich, tow truck operator for Concept Towing.
Not only were they expecting a long night and early morning, but a potentially dangerous one.
"Two other cars almost slid into me. I was hooking up another car, and one car almost slides into me. He said, 'Sorry for sliding there,' "said Martin.
But, it wasn't just cars that had to be pulled out of the snowy roads.
"I got a wrecker coming. If he gets up at the top of the hill I'm good to go," said Janet Hunter, a U.S. mail carrier.
Hunter pulled over to avoid losing traction and swerving on the roads. She was hauling this truck from Greensboro, North Carolina, a feat other drivers have not made easy.
"If we lose traction, and stop that is it we're done. With these 18-wheelers there is just so much that they can do," said Hunter.
City of Lynchburg Public Works crews will be out plowing all primary and secondary streets.
