Danville, VA - Danville crews spent the day Monday making sure roads were clear for those heading out on the Southside. The city got about four inches of snow, so city officials say the cleanup was quick.
While sure the trucks were kept busy Monday, the sun that was shining did much of the work.
"This is an easy storm to push because the sun's helping us," said Rick Drazenovich, director of Danville Public Works.
More sun meant fewer trucks for Danville public works.
"We've been in the residentials since probably middle of the night, early morning. And we'll probably have it finished by the end of this shift," said Drazenovich.
An easy storm they say was tackled by a fleet of 23 plows, filtering into the city's five designated clean-up zones. By midday most was done. The afternoon was spent plowing the little that remained on side streets.
"There's a lot of tight areas where the parking is on both sides of the street and no matter which way you move the snow, it's being plowed against a row of cars," said Drazenovich.
Snow storms traditionally flood tow truck companies with business. But they say the load this time, was light.
"The storm happening on a Sunday evening, you took two-thirds of the traffic off of the road because you didn't have your evening commute. If this had been a Monday or Tuesday, when you had people coming home from work, there would have been a whole lot more calls," said tow truck driver, Larry Davis.
But shoveling like with any snow storm was plentiful. "This is like the first day of winter," said Danville resident Gary Grant.
Department of Public Works officials say they expect every street in the city to be completely clean 7 p.m. Monday.
