Lynchburg, VA - We don't have to tell you that we have had a really mild winter. One snow storm is nothing compared to what we've seen in the past.
The problem is the warmer temperatures are giving way to a new problem for a lot of people like Bonnie Miles.
"I've always has allergies since I was a child," Miles said.
But for the first time in a long time Miles is in the doctor's office during the winter looking for relief.
"This year starting in January I've had a lot of congestion which is unusual," Miles said.
Dr. Joseph Lane said she is not alone.
"We are seeing other people coming in starting to have trouble," he said.
Lane said tree pollen is the culprit.
"We are starting to see moderate levels this time of year, which normally we wouldn't see for three or four weeks but because of the mild winter we are seeing tree pollen levels higher than we normally would see this time of year," Lane explained.
Even though allergy season is starting earlier -- it's no guarantee it will end earlier.
"It's hard to know," Lane explained. "A lot of the severity of the pollen season depends on how much moisture we get. We've had a pretty wet winter this year so my guess is that we'll see moderate to high pollen levels this year."
Whatever happens, Miles isn't going to let her symptoms keep her from living life.
"I'll just deal with it," Mile said. "I always have."
Unfortunately Sunday's snow isn't going to do anything to help out the situation. Lane said it just didn't stay cold long enough to trick the trees into thinking it's still winter.
